This lesson applies the general lesson "APIs & MCP — getting the most out of Claude" to marketing. Unlike Legal (which has a full official Anthropic plugin), marketing has no single suite — there's one strong official connector (HubSpot) and the rest connects via Zapier or community MCPs depending on the tool you already use (Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Ahrefs, social media).

What you'll get: HubSpot connected via OAuth in three steps, the connection pattern for every other tool in your stack (email, SEO, social), and a real workflow where a full email campaign goes from half a day of work to a 10-15 minute conversation.

Part 1 — HubSpot: the official connector

HubSpot has a native Claude connector (available since April 2026). It's your starting point if you use HubSpot as your CRM/automation.

How to connect it

1

Open Connectors

Go to Settings → Connectors in Claude.

2

Authorize HubSpot

Find HubSpot in the list and authorize with your account.

3

Done

No manual API key — the connection is OAuth.

Example prompt

Example prompt

Give me last week's email campaign performance report from HubSpot, compare it to the previous campaign, and draft 3 subject-line variants to A/B test in the next one.

And a fill-in template you can reuse with your own campaign data:

Example prompt

From HubSpot, pull the performance of the [campaign name] campaign for [date range], compare open and click rates against [previous campaign name], and draft [3] subject-line variants for the [segment name] segment to A/B test next week.

If you use Mailchimp, Klaviyo, or your CRM isn't HubSpot

There's no native connector for most of these yet. The path is the same as Clio in the legal lesson: Zapier first (simpler, same 6-point checklist), and a community MCP as a plan B — always verifying license, recent activity and which actions it allows before giving it access to real campaign data.

Part 2 — Live SEO

For SEO, the best connection today isn't a CRM but a technical-audit tool connected via MCP (e.g. Ahrefs if you have an account, or your own crawler). The connection pattern is the same 6-point checklist — pay special attention to scope minimization: an SEO MCP normally only needs read access, it never needs the ability to publish or delete content on your site.

Example prompt

Example prompt

With Ahrefs data connected, audit the 20 pages with the biggest traffic drop this month, tell me the likely cause of each (cannibalization, lost backlinks, shift in search intent), and prioritize which to fix first by potential impact.

Part 3 — Social media

Each platform (X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Meta) has its own API with different rate limits and app-approval rules. There's no universal connector — you usually connect via Zapier (covers scheduling posts and reading basic metrics) or management tools like Buffer/Hootsuite that expose their own MCP.

An important business rule for this lesson. Some marketing skills we evaluated carry a Commons Clause license — meaning they can be used, but cannot be resold or bundled into a paid product. If you're going to teach with a specific open-source skill in a paid course, check its license first — what applies to us as a platform also applies to you if you build your own derived material for clients.

What this automates in practice

A full email campaign (segmentation + 3 subject variants + body + CTA + post-send report) that used to take a marketing specialist half a day, with HubSpot connected gets done in a 10-15 minute conversation — the strategy and final approval stay yours, the production is automated.

10-minute practice. If you use HubSpot: connect it now (three steps above) and run the campaign-report template with one of your real campaigns. If you don't: write out your current marketing stack (CRM, email, SEO, social) and mark which of the three paths each piece gets — official connector, Zapier, or a community MCP vetted with the 6-point checklist.
